Academic Brand Guidelines

Academic Logo

The University of Findlay logo is the primary means by which we are recognized. The consistent and proper use of the logo strengthens the recognition of the University of Findlay and projects the university’s established reputation onto all of the many individual entities that make up the university.

Construction

Griffith Arch Keystone

As the last piece of the arch to be put into place, the keystone locks all the other stones into position. It symbolizes strength and the enduring value of a UF education. The Griffith Arch and the Arch Ceremony are intrinsic to the University of Findlay; therefore, the keystone is a natural choice for our logo mark.

Griffith Arch

The subtle curvature of the line making up the base of the keystone, represents the Arch itself.

Old Main

Old Main is the most iconic building on campus, uniting current and former students through tradition and history. Used here, the image pays homage to the Findlay College logo, yet contains elements that are undeniably “UF today.” The six slats shown in the cupola represent the six colleges comprising the University. The architectural element at the top of Old Main is in the shape of an arrow symbolizing a university that, while proud of its history, is forward-thinking and embraces the future.

Guidance
Clear Space

The clear space is the protected area around the logo that maximizes its impact. This space must be kept free of all other graphics and text, including other logos. It is also the minimum distance the logo can be from the edges of an electronic document or printed piece.

Minimum Size

The logo should not appear smaller than .5 inch or 55 px. Anything smaller should use a simplified version of the logo.

Color Variations

The academic logo should always be reproduced as a single color. The academic logo should always be reproduced in official university colors: Findlay Black, Findlay Orange or Cool Gray. The logo should always be displayed in white when applied to dark backgrounds.

Only reproduce the logo using the primary color palette.

Do not rotate the logo.

Do not manually type the logotype.

Do not add text or other graphics to the logo.

Do not place the logo on busy backgrounds.

Make sure there is sufficient contrast between the logo and background.

Do not add an outline to the logo.

Do not render the logo as an outline.

Do not add a drop shadow or other effects to the logo.

Do not break apart or combine logos.

Old Main Logomark

This old main logomark has been created to allow designers the freedom to use this iconic university emblem with more design flexibility. It can be used as an accent graphic to add visual impact to a layout and provide an additional element of our identity to compositions. It can be used large as an opaque (10-15%) abstract background element cropped at the bottom right edge of a composition, or the mark can be used as a stand-alone flourish. When being used as a background element it must always be anchored to the bottom right of the page and be cropped off at the same point as below. It can be produced in any single brand color. The Old Main logomark is always a single color. Do not attempt to fill in areas with color or create multi-color variations.

University Seal

The official university seal is the most formal of our brand elements and conveys the rigor, history, quality, and decorum of our brand and legacy. As the most formal element in our brand system, the seal is reserved for use only by the office of the president, and the board of trustees. Special permission must be obtained in writing for use of the official seal. Contact the Office of Marketing and Communication for permission.

Color Palette

Consistent use of color creates a visual cohesion across all university communications. It elicits emotional reactions with those impacted by our brand. When combined with photos of our campus, faculty, staff, and students it increases the impact of our message.

Typography

Consistent use of typography is a simple way to align our visual identity. Fonts set a tone for how communication is read and can do a lot to alleviate denseness on the most text-heavy pages.

Based on their clean lines, usability and compatibility with the university logo, Museo Slab, Avenir and Baskerville have been selected as our official university fonts. The highly readable fonts are diverse in weight and style, attractive when paired together. Museo Slab should only be used for titles or headlines and never in all caps. Avenir or Baskerville are appropriate fonts for large bodies of copy. To supplement our core typefaces, Adios Script Pro (formal) and Madina Clean (playful) have been chosen as our script font.
